On April 20, 2025, at approximately 4:04 PM, the Monelison Volunteer Fire Department, along with the Big Island Fire Department and Amherst County Fire & EMS, were dispatched to a trail off Elon Road in response to a bicycle accident. Squad 21, Engine 23, and Utility 21 from Monelison Volunteer Fire Department promptly responded to the call.
Upon arrival, crews from all three agencies embarked on foot up the trail to locate the injured cyclist. Due to the challenging terrain, the Virginia State Police Med-Flight was called to the scene. Utilizing their hoist, the Med-Flight team successfully lifted the injured cyclist off the mountain using a stoke basket and transported them to a local trauma center for further medical treatment.
The Monelison Volunteer Fire Department extends its gratitude to all the agencies involved for their swift and coordinated efforts in ensuring the safety and well-being of the injured cyclist. |
