Burn Pile Fire Burns Four Acres, Destroys One Residence, and Damages Two Others

Madison Heights, VA– On March 22, 2025, while actively working a woodline fire on Lakeridge Drive, the Monelison Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to another brush fire in the area of Tanglewood Drive at 1:04 PM.

Units Engine 21, Engine 22, Engine 23, Chief 2, Utility 21, and Attack 21 responded, along with Amherst County Fire and EMS, Amherst Fire Department, Pedlar Fire Department, Lynchburg Fire Department, Concord Volunteer Fire Department, Virginia Department of Forestry, and the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office. In total, approximately 50 firefighters were on the scene.

The fire, which originated from a burn pile, spread rapidly, burning four acres. One mobile home was destroyed, and two others sustained damage to their siding. The Amherst County Sheriff’s Office assisted in evacuating multiple residents in the area due to the aggressive nature of the fire.

The Monelison Volunteer Fire Department extends its gratitude to all the agencies that responded. Their collective efforts prevented the destruction of many more homes in the immediate area.
