February 1, 2025

The Monelison Volunteer Fire Department (MVFD) is excited to announce the acquisition of the cutting-edge DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise thermal imaging drone. This state-of-the-art equipment, funded through the Virginia Department of Fire Programs Aid to Localities (ATL) program, will significantly enhance the department's emergency response capabilities.

The DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise thermal imaging drone is equipped with advanced thermal technology, allowing MVFD personnel to detect heat signatures and locate individuals or hotspots even in challenging conditions such as thick smoke or darkness. This new addition is set to revolutionize the way the department approaches various emergency scenarios.

Chief Joey Malott of the MVFD expressed his enthusiasm for this technological advancement: "The acquisition of the DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise drone marks a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to improve our emergency response capabilities. Thanks to the ATL program, we are now better equipped to serve and protect our community."

The drone's thermal imaging camera provides real-time data to ground teams, offering a comprehensive view of the situation and enabling informed decision-making. The DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise drone is versatile and can be utilized in a variety of emergency scenarios, including:

Search and Rescue Operations: Rapidly locating missing persons in vast or hard-to-reach areas.

Wildfire Management: Identifying fire perimeters, hotspots, and potential threats.

Hazardous Material Incidents: Assessing the scene and identifying risks without putting personnel in harm's way.

The department remains committed to leveraging the latest technology to enhance public safety and provide exceptional service to the residents of Madison Heights and surrounding areas.
