Madison Heights, VA, March 3, 2025 – Early this morning, at approximately 5:41 AM, the Monelison Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a brush fire on Round Mountain Loop. The fire, which affected over one acre of wooded area, also caused damage to a nearby home and shed.
Responding units included Brush 21, Tanker 21, Chief 2, Amherst County Fire & EMS, and the Virginia Department of Forestry. Upon arrival, firefighters found that a shed on the property had been destroyed and the siding of a residence had melted due to the intense heat. Crews from all three agencies were able to contain and extinguish the brush fire.
Fortunately, the homeowner was home at the time, noticed the fire, and immediately called 911, allowing for a swift response from emergency services. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
The Monelison Volunteer Fire Department would like to remind residents to remain vigilant and report any signs of fire immediately. This is the worst time of year for brush fires with low humidity and dry conditions fires can quickly get out of control. We extend our gratitude to all the responding units for their quick and effective action in containing the fire and preventing further damage. |
