Around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 29th, the Amherst County Sheriff's Office was notified that a toddler was in the road close to the Arbor Ct. Apartments on Rt. 163. The caller said that while they were driving, they nearly struck the child, who obviously became alarmed and fled into a wooded area. The following agencies responded: Virginia State Police, Amherst Sheriff's Department, Amherst Fire & EMS, Monelison Volunteer Fire Department Utility 21, and Drone 21. Following that, a thorough search of the region was conducted using a variety of resources, including three (3) drones, one K9, and numerous personnel. A child that fit the description of the toddler was located. As of right now, the Sheriff's Office has not received any reports of a missing person.
